Lake District Wedding Photographer
Cumbria and the Lake District are very special places to me. One of the main reasons I’m super happy to be a Lake District Wedding Photographer in 2020 is that I’ve been going there for many years for holidays and little trips away with family. I adore the natural environment that the Lakes and Cumbria offers, this is why couples choose me for my natural approach to wedding photography.
Each time I visit the Lakes it offers something new to see and experience, a new incredible vista or amazing new hotel, its all so exciting. I love to visit the famous walks with family and friends for things like wild camping, amazing places for food like Chesters by the River and just that feeling of getting away from out all in the stunning wilderness. The Lake District is one of the most beautiful places in the world you could chose to get married.
The forests and tarns and also the incredible mountainous vistas have always stirred my creative spirit in my desire to photograph weddings and elopements at those locations. So with that in mind here are a few images that I have taken over the years as a Lake District Wedding Photographer and a Lake District Elopement photographer. If you’re planning a wedding or intimate elopement in the Lake District and Cumbria region in 2020 and 2021 please get in touch and let’s chat about your plans.
LAKE DISTRICT WEDDING VENUES
When it comes to Lake District Wedding Venues there is no shortage of diversity and choice. From breathtaking lake side stately manor houses to rustic log cabins it has so many amazing places. Cragwood country house and Langdale Chase offers some incredible lakes views right on the shores of Windermere whilst offering guests the luxury of being in a manor house. It has been nearly ten years of being a wedding photographer in the Lake District, covering weddings and elopements in the most incredible locations. One of my first places I was honoured to photograph a wedding was at the stunning Silverholme Manor in Graythwaite and I was honoured to be amount the first (in fact the very first!) wedding photographer to cover a wedding there. It has fast become a fond location for return visits there for many weddings over the years. Here is that very first wedding I photographed there with awesome Will and Jen.
I have also frequented the incredible Langdale valley especially at the most stunning place to see mountains, forests and fells at the wondrous and well known Blea Tarn. Driving up on the way is Chesters by the River an amazing location for stunning food and drink with stunning views as you dine next to a river. You can see a Blea Tarn intimate wedding here during the autumn.
A very short trip down the road from Silverholme Manor are the Graythwaite cottages, situated among the trees in a stunning location, I had very intimate elopement style wedding there a few years ago and had the most amazing day. If you were to drive a little further you can have a lake cruise on Windermere with your guests, enjoying canopes whilst enjoying the stunning scenery, which I recently did for a destination wedding on a South African wedding.
Hawskhead, with it’s nearby Tarn Hows for epic looking landscape and mountains also the nearby Beatrix Potter exhibition and shops in the town. I was also fortunate to photograph a natural outdoor wedding at Yew Tree Farm which was Beatrix Potters Farm Cottage and which is also a museum and not usually open to many weddings, a very special honour indeed.
The Hidden River Cabins is another phenomenal location in the Lakes for a wedding, it offers cabins for you and your guests and the most wonderful backdrops that will take your breath away! I am proud to be an official recommended supplier at the cabins, you can see a wedding I photographed here during the early days of the summer here.
Haweswater Hotel in Haweswater is another hidden gem in the lakes. It is a place with some raw beauty with its lake side views and hidden inside the mountains in a truly epic location. There are even some secret locations such as an amazing waterfall for some of your wedding day portraits which I can take you to if you felt adventurous! Here is a fantastic elopement style wedding I captured there in the Autumn.
The Wasdale Head Inn is Wasdale is another fantastic place if you love your mountains views. It is also a great secluded places for a wedding in the lakes with lots of little secret places on the grounds including a stunning bride over the river that flows just outside, it is one of my favourite places in the Lakes. You can see a Wasdale Head Inn wedding I photographed here.
Lake District Elopement Venues
As I have previously talked about here, Blea Tarn is a stunning gem of an elopement location in the Lakes. I have been here for many engagement shoots here as it is prefect for a place to do just that! You can see some of those in the engagement section of my site here. I also have captured numerous elopements there which you can see here and also here. Trust me, this place is special!
The Gilpin is an incredible place to host your wedding or even your elopement in the Lakes, here is an elopement I photographed there, the Giplin has it all, a beautiful location with a Lake House overlooking its own private lake with boats which you and your guests can enjoy.
Loughrigg Cottage in Ambleside is a brilliant place for an intimate elopement as well. The house is a wonderful place next to a stream and mountains in the distance. A very wonderful hidden gem of a location that is a real highlight in the Lakes. You can see an elopement at Loughrigg Cottage I photographed here.
Lake District Elopement Planning
I have made a comprehensive Lake District Elopement Planing Guide entirely for free which you can view here. I have made this guide in order to give those couples the information they need in order to be able to put together a place for their awesome elopement in the Lakes.
A UNESCO CUMBRIAN NATIONAL PARK WEDDING LOCATION
I take huge pride in being an Award Winning Lake District Wedding Photographer, having being recognised by the British Institute of Professional Photography. However I love doing what I do because the rewards in being able to capture a couples perfect day in the most perfect of locations in the country is what drives me as a photographer. There are lots of reasons to get married in the Lakes, some of which I have detailed, but you need to visit just to see why. A Cumbrian national park wedding is a fantastic idea, one that is a part of the UNESCO heritage is just amazing. It is not only a superb place for a wedding or elopement but also as a place to visit.
HONEYMOON IN THE LAKES
It is quite common for couples that get married in the Lake District in 2020, 2021 and even as far as 2022 are making the place to also honeymoon in after their wedding day. There is just so much to see and do. The Lakes is replete with a vast and fascinating history as well as views that are always sure to impress. You can even do guided tours, eat at Michelin star restaurants and just generally get away from it all! I have made a little list of all the extra actives you can do in the Lake District when you choose to get married here:
GETTING OUT THE LAKES
You can do lots of different boat trips, form old steamer boats, which you can see a wedding I did on one here, to more modern boats that are very luxurious. You can even kayak or take smaller sail and motor boats too, the lakes rare vast and you are free to stop on most little islands and places for a secluded picnic! If you are brave you can swim in some locations but must observe the health and safety rules when doing so, the water is very fresh!
WALKING AND CLIMBING
The Lake is famous for its walks and of course climbing. There are some very well known, and wonderful, climbs provided you are a skilled climber. I think that your wedding is more than just a simple ceremony and you can make a real adventure out of it by choosing to have your wedding here.
PHOTOGRAPHY IN THE LAKES
The locations in the Lake District are extremely photogenic! I realise this sounds like bias but when you are here you can understand exactly why this is a place of outstanding natural beauty. The lakes attracts all kinds of wildlife and nature photographers from all over the world, it is a protected UNESCO national park and the wildlife that is here is amazing. You can often see deers grazing and all kinds of birds and much more. The mountains here such as Scafell Pike are incredible if you are into your landscapes as well as many more amazing places, waterfalls, unique nature trails and trees to please all kinds of photographers and artists alike.
