There’s something about spring that suits a woodland wedding perfectly. The trees are beginning to burst back into life, the woodland floor is fresh with new greenery, and everything feels just that little bit calmer after winter. It made the perfect setting for Davida and Ryan’s wedding at Cheshire Woodland Weddings, where they had the entire venue exclusively to themselves for the day.
If you’re dreaming of a wedding that’s relaxed, a little different and centred around spending genuine time with the people you love, this one is full of inspiration.
A relaxed start to the day
The morning couldn’t have been more fitting for the setting. Guests slowly arrived to the peaceful woodland surroundings while the excitement quietly built throughout the morning. One of the things I love about photographing weddings here is that there never feels like there’s any rush. The venue naturally encourages everyone to slow down, breathe and enjoy the experience. Davida looked incredible as she made the short walk towards the woodland ceremony, while Ryan waited beneath the beautiful thatched ceremony shelter surrounded by family and friends.
An outdoor ceremony surrounded by woodland
One of the biggest draws of Cheshire Woodland Weddings is, quite simply, the ceremony location itself. Hidden amongst fifteen acres of woodland, the ceremony space feels completely private. As guests took their seats beneath the trees, the sounds of birdsong replaced traffic, creating an atmosphere that’s difficult to replicate anywhere else.
Spring added something extra to the day too. Fresh green leaves framed the ceremony, soft natural light filtered through the trees and everything looked effortlessly beautiful without feeling overly styled. For documentary wedding photography, settings like this are a dream because real moments naturally unfold without needing much direction.
Relaxed Couple Portraits
One question I’m often asked is how long we disappear for couple portraits.
The answer is… not very long.
The woodland provides beautiful backdrops almost everywhere you turn, meaning we could create a relaxed set of portraits in just a short walk while leaving plenty of time for Davida and Ryan to enjoy their guests. There was no endless posing, no awkward direction and certainly no spending an hour away from the party. Just a chance for the two of them to slow down for ten minutes, enjoy the surroundings and take everything in together.
Fun and Games and a Bird Show!
If there was one part of the day that had everyone talking, it was the incredible birds of prey display.
Watching these magnificent birds fly through the woodland was something completely different and perfectly suited to the surroundings. Guests stopped in their tracks as owls and birds of prey glided effortlessly overhead, creating moments that felt genuinely unforgettable.
It’s one of those experiences that makes a wedding here feel unlike anywhere else, and it fitted Davida and Ryan’s vision perfectly.
Into the barn for the evening
As the day moved into the evening, everyone gathered inside the barn where the celebrations continued. The atmosphere never changed. It stayed exactly as the rest of the day had been—relaxed, fun and completely centred around enjoying time together. Looking back through the photographs afterwards, what stands out most isn’t just the woodland setting or the activities, although they certainly made the day memorable.
It’s the smiles.
The laughter.
The moments Davida and Ryan probably never even realised were happening around them.
That’s what documentary wedding photography is all about.
Evening Celebrations
Davida and Ryan did a spectacular rehearsed dance that they kept a secret from their friends and family and it was a genuine showstopper! They had a very hidden talent and as a Cheshire Woodland Weddings photographer this was a real treat for me to capture!
