Some couples can surprise you, Ashley and Chris were no exception, this one was an amazing Wasdale Adventure Wedding! Avid climbers in the lake district they had chosen to have an early morning hike in their wedding gear before the ceremony and the days celebrations at Wasdale Head Inn. I was totally up for that! It was a long hike through the Wasdale valley but it ultimately led to the most amazing rock formation and they could not resit climbing to get those one-of-a-kind series of images.
Wasdale Wedding
Wasdale Head Inn is a venue that I have photographed at many times and I am very excited to be back after an amazing wedding with another wonderful and adventurous couple! The inn is a very special place because of it’s hiking heritage but also because of its amazing setting it is a perfectly picturesque place for a natural, outdoor and adventurous wedding,

Adventure Wedding Photographer
Ashley and Chris, both dedicated climbers, kicked off the day with a hike—in their wedding gear! From the doorstep of the iconic Wasdale Head Inn (the birthplace of British rock climbing), they ascended toward Styhead Pass, the route between Great Gable and Scafell Pike, England’s highest peak.
I couldn’t help but smile pausing mid-wedding dress or suit, breathing in the pure morning air beside Wastwater, England’s deepest lake. Along the way, they passed legendary peaks: Scafell Pike, Sca Fell, Great Gable, Kirk Fell, and Pillar—all framing their special day. When we found the perfect spot for some iconic images that is exactly what we made!
Just a sample of their morning adventure:
Back at the Inn, with its slate-floored bars and climbing memorabilia, the ceremony blended seamlessly into the natural beauty that surrounded it. It’s not just the only hotel in the valley—it’s a living tribute to mountaineering.
Instead of a first dance, the night unfolded with heartfelt speeches from friends and family—a fitting thing to do in a day built on authenticity and intimacy. Then came something truly special: board games for everyone. Over laughter and friendly competition, guests played, bonded, and shared stories late into the night—just the kind of human connection Ashley and Chris cherish.
Here are the images from the full day:
Ashley and Chris showed how you can honour what makes you unique. Their wedding was fuelled by passion—for each other and for the mountains. It was bold, genuine, and filled with joy. From the morning summit in full wedding attire to an evening of stories and board games, they crafted a day that will be remembered for its realness and warmth.
If you’re an adventurous couple dreaming of a wedding that’s rooted in nature, joy, and meaningful moments, Wasdale Head Inn might be just the place—and I’d love to help capture it all.
